Am Samstag, 26. September 2026 lädt der Magdeburger Kantatenchor zu einem sehr außergewöhnlichen Konzert ein. Um 17:00 Uhr beginnt in der Pauluskirche die Aufführung des Oratoriums Die Himmelsleiter von Barry Jordan. In vier Teilen beschäftigt sich das Werk (Libretto von Domprediger i.R. Giselher Quast) mit Luthers Wirken 1524, also vor 500 Jahren in Magdeburg, erzählt von der Auseinandersetzung um die neue Lehre, vergegenwärtigt die schreckliche Zerstörung Magdeburgs als ‚Unsers Herrgotts Kanzlei‘ durch die katholische Liga im Dreißigjährigen Krieg und fragt schließlich nach der Zukunft der Kirche in der Gegenwart. Barry Jordan schreibt eine klangschöne, wunderbare Musik, durch die immer wieder anglikanische Musiktradition durchschimmert. Sehr differenziert verarbeitet er alte Choräle aus den ersten, vor 500 Jahren gedruckten Gesangbüchern. Höchst eindrucksvoll gelingt ihm so die Vertonung der teilweise sehr bekannten Texte.
